Osun retirees protest poor welfare package
There has been a massive protest by retirees of Osun State extraction over the non payment of their monthly pension and backlog of gratuities being owed by the Osun State government.
The retirees in their huge number trooped the major street of Osogbo , the state capital causing traffic gridlock.
They sustained the peaceful protest, brandishing different placards that expressed their grievances over the maltreatment being meted out to them by the state government.
While speaking with journalists as they rounded off their protests , the senior citizens said the state government has not shown concern for the welfare of the people who spent thirty five years of their lives servicing the government, stressing that this is not the first time they will be protesting over their retirement benefits.
They charged the new Governor , Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola to show commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, noting that they have been subjected to hardship in the time past by the immediate past administration and such trend should not be sustained by the new Governor.
The protesters, while charging the state government not to deny them of their rightful emoluments , maintained that until government shows a change of attitude, their protest will be a continuous process.
