Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Aromolaran, is dead

The Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, has has died after 40 years on the throne.

It was reliably gathered that the monarch joined his ancestors, on Thursday, but no official confirmation yet.

Sources from the palace who preferred anonymity hinted that the traditional died after a brief illness.

A source said, “Traditionally, Palace of Owa Obokun does not announce death of Kaabiesi Owa Obokun until after the completion of necessary rites. Forever in our hearts. Eternal rest our Baba, Owa Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.”

The source said traditionalists have commenced the the process of carrying out traditional rites for the passage of the monarch.

“Once the traditional rites are done , which may take days, the state government shall be official informed about the passage of our traditional ruler. But for now, lips sealed. We have to follow the tradition”, the source added.

At the time of filing this report, policemen had been deployed to the palace to maintain order.

Meanwhile, there was palpable fear in Ilesa town as residents were apprehensive over the danger inherent in the traditional rites.
