Growing public concern over insecurity and economic hardship took centre stage after the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address the country’s mounting challenges. Speaking in a video that circulated widely online, the cleric urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to respond with greater urgency to the issues affecting Nigerians.

The remarks came against the backdrop of continued reports of violent attacks and rising economic pressures in different parts of the country. According to Bishop Oyedepo, the scale of insecurity demands decisive leadership, warning that prolonged public frustration could deepen if citizens do not see meaningful improvements in their daily lives.

Addressing the human cost of the violence, the cleric condemned the killing of unarmed Nigerians and expressed concern over the emotional and psychological toll on affected families and communities. He argued that victims of such attacks should not be expected to sympathise with those responsible for the violence, stressing the need for stronger measures to protect lives.

Bishop Oyedepo also questioned what he described as the government’s handling of the security situation, saying authorities appeared not to be responding with the urgency required by the circumstances. He urged the President to take immediate steps to restore public confidence through more effective action against insecurity.

Beyond security, the cleric linked the country’s economic difficulties to the growing anxiety among citizens. His comments reflected wider public conversations about the impact of inflation, rising living costs and uncertainty, with many Nigerians continuing to look to government institutions for lasting solutions.

The latest intervention from the religious leader adds to a series of calls by prominent voices across different sectors urging authorities to prioritise public safety and economic recovery. Such appeals have increasingly focused on the need for policies that improve security, protect livelihoods and strengthen confidence in public institutions.

While expressing strong criticism of the current situation, Bishop Oyedepo’s message underscored the expectation that government should act swiftly to confront the country’s challenges. As debates over governance and national priorities continue, security and the economy remain central issues shaping public engagement and national discourse.
