Prof. Faduyile said June 12 , 1993 election was an election that was adjudged freeest and fairest and it signed post the collaborative effort of Nigerians to disconnect from the tyranny of the military junta. He said Nigerians who had yearned from Democracy banded together to fight the enemies of June 12 mandate and so many heroes paid the Supreme price in the struggle to return Nigeria to the path of Democracy.

Prof. Faduyile noted with sadness that June 12 claimed Basorun Moshood Kasimawo Olawale ( MKO) Abiola and his wife, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola who was murdered by the men of the junta because of her loud clamor for the actualization of June 12, adding that the struggle claimed so many Civil rights activists, members of students union bodies and Journalists who delved into investigative and guerrilla journalism because of how toxic their career had become as they penned news contents to actualize June 12 .

Prof. Faduyile said, ” as we celebrate June 12 now acknowledged nationally as The Democracy Day in Nigeria, we remember heroes of Democracy who were martyred for Democracy such as the winner of June 12, 1993 election, MKO Abiola and his wife , Kudirat Abiola, Late Alfred Rewane, Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Late Abraham Adessanya, Baba Nadeco himself, Late Chief Adekunle Ajasin and many more and living legends of the struggle like President Bola Tinubu, Prof Wole Soyinka, Odia Ofeimun, Kunle Ajibade, Segun Mayegun, Omoyele Sowore and many so numerous to mention.

” We are glad that Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria and we must all continue to support this Democratic stride. We must all not forget that eternal vigilance as they say, is the price of freedom,” Prof. Faduyile added.
