Prof.Faduyile greets Christians at Easter, urges more commitment to selfless service
By Steve Ovirih.
An appeal has gone to Christians all over Nigeria to imbibe the sense of selfless service as a way of showing commitment to the virtues of the risen Christ.
This indication was given by Prof.Faduyile,OON, in his Special Easter greetings to Nigerians. His goodwill statement to felicitate Christians on the occasion of the Easter celebration was obtained by thepolity.net
The Professor of Pathology and Forensic Medicine described the fasting period as a period of great commitment and sacrifice as the fasting for 40 days allowed abstinence in which the faithfuls had to do away with all manners of worldly attraction, adding that no commitment is greater than this.
He said the commitment imbibed during the Lenten period, the lessons learnt and the steadfastness in prayers have become virtues that Christians must sustain now that the Lenten period is over, stressing that adherents cannot afford to go back to sins they have abandoned while fasting and praying for 40 long days. He said while fasting is good for the body medically, the one Christians just ended reflect greater spiritual implications as the period encouraged Christians to pray more and to sacrifice their time for greater issues of commitment to the kingdom of God.
Prof. Faduyile noted that celebrating Easter also calls for sober reflection in which one is able to ponder on the mystery of the work of salvation. He added that Christ’s victory over death was the only solution to the mockery of our faith as it became obvious that if Christ has not risen our faith would have been watered down by the doubters of the cherished work of salvation .
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Federal University of Education, Kontagora, noted that even the cynics know that the prayer of the faithful has been availing much for Nigeria over the years. He therefore called on Nigerian Christians not to relent in their commitment to pray and intercede for Nigeria , maintaining that God hearkens to the prayers of those who have been earnestly seeking his face over the affairs of Nigeria. ” Don’t relent in your prayers for Nigeria,” Prof.Dayo Faduyile stressed. ” Christians should not relent at all. Our prayers are reaching the throne of God’s mercy so this alone should encourage us to keep surrendering Nigeria to God in prayers,”Faduyile averred.
He called for moderation , charging people to be security conscious as they celebrate Easter.
