The Regent of Ayeka kingdom, Princess Barr. Oluyemi Bajowa has vowed to continue to show more support and commitment to women’s rights , their emancipation and empowerment.

She expressed this commitment on Wednesday, the 14th July at the palace of the Lumure of Ayeka when members of the National Council for Women Societies, Okitipupa chapter visited the palace to officially present her a special recognition award for her roles and commitment to protecting the rights of women in the society.

Members of NCWS thronged the palace in their huge number , singing and dancing to appreciate the Regent whom they described as a worthy ambassador of the womenfolk not only in Ikaleland but in Nigeria.

Speaking with thepolity.net, President , National Council for Women Societies, Mrs. Akinseyinwa Wayeola said the council wants more women in exalted position in Nigeria to project women rights and associate with the council. She said the council resolved to decorate Princess Bajowa after they have watched with keen interest her examplary leadership in Ayeka kingdom. She added that she has shown a firm grip on her domain and within two years of her Regency , she has rid the town of vices , particularly social vices that used to be committed against the women folk such as rape and gender violence against women.

Mrs. Wayeola stressed that National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) is happy to identify with the Regent and will continue to give her all the necessary support.

Earlier in her remark, the Regent of Ayeka had thanked the women Council for recognizing her humble strides and assured them that she will continue to show support to matters of women development in her domain and beyond. She said she is honored by the visit , assuring the council of her resolve to ensure that Ayeka continues to show zero tolerance to any act that reduce women or relegate them to the background in the society.

While making clarification on what ideals the council stands for, Mrs. Wayeola stressed that National Council for Women Societies is the umbrella body for all women organization in Nigeria and it has continued to sustain the campaign against rape and all manners of gender based violence against women in the society. She said the council has always appealed to the men dominated society to adhere to the United Nations approved 35% affirmative action which stipulates that more roles should be assigned to women in government.

Mrs. Wayeola charged the women folk who have means and what it takes to excel to go into politics, noting that women’s roles have gone beyond being confined to the kitchen in the 21st century.
