Niger State security forces successfully defended an outpost from a large-scale terrorist attack in the Wawa area early Wednesday. Officials confirm no lives were lost in the violent confrontation.

Suspected terrorists, arriving in strength just after midnight, targeted personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Commandant Suberu Siyaka-Aniviye stated that alert officers responded promptly, preventing the attackers from operating freely.

The situation intensified due to the cover of darkness and the attackers’ superior numbers. Using torchlights to spot targets, the terrorists opened heavy fire. NSCDC personnel tactically took cover to avoid being hit.

During the withdrawal to safety, officers left their operational vehicle. Mistaking it for an occupied target, the attackers riddled the car with bullets, shattering its windscreen and puncturing all tyres. The vehicle was later recovered.

The invaders looted nearby huts, stealing clothes, phones, and gadgets. One service rifle was also taken. While some personnel sustained minor injuries, all have been accounted for and are safe.

A tactical team has been deployed to the area for enhanced patrols and search operations. Preliminary reports suggest the terrorists were likely relocating between hideouts during the attempted assault. No group has claimed responsibility.
