Trading banned on main road in Akure.

– Steve Ovirih.

Ondo State Government has ordered a ban on all trading activities on the main road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Donald Ojogo announced this ban in Akure, the state capital.

He noted that with effect from Monday, the 11th January, it will become an offence for anybody to display their wares on any of the major roads in the state capital. He categorically mentioned ‘Oja Oba’ in Akure and the Arakale routes as places where traders have usurped commuters and vehicle owners right of way for the purpose of trading and commercial activities thereby causing avoidable traffic gridlock on these roads. The Commissioner warned that any trader who contravenes this order will have his or her wares confiscated as it has become necessary for Government to ensure that law and order are maintained at the major connecting routes across the state capital.

He appealed to traders around the Oja Oba /Oba Adesida road to keep their commercial activities to the stalls allocated to them by government as all efforts will be made to enforce the ban imposed on roadside trading.
