After years of political maneuvering, Christopher Omisore is making another attempt to lead Osun State. The former deputy governor and senator officially declared his plan to run for governor in the 2026 election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He announced his ambition directly to the public through a social media post.
Omisore is no stranger to the state’s politics. He served as deputy governor from 1999 to 2003 and later represented Osun East in the Senate. His political journey has seen him switch parties; he previously contested for the governorship in 2014 on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before moving to the APC.
In his declaration, Omisore called his campaign an “Osun Rescue Mission.” He stated that his focus would be on restoring hope and improving governance for a better future. He has invited the public to a formal event to kick off his campaign at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo.
This move sets the stage for a competitive primary within the ruling APC. Omisore’s extensive experience and history in the state’s politics are expected to make him a major contender for the party’s ticket.
