Faduyile says Pneumonia affects all age groups, advocates action against disease.

The former National President, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Prof. Dayo Faduyile, OON, who was the immediate past Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Governor, has said that Pneumonia which is an infection of the lungs caused by germs affect all age groups and could be life threatening especially in children withing the 2 years old bracket and below.
Prof. Faduyile who has continued ‘ the health tip,’ a weekly health nugget he had started about two years ago, noted that in the bracket of the elderly people in the society, the Pneumonia risk factors include smoking and diseases that easily weaken body’s defense mechanism.
While furthering his medical opinion on Pneumonia, Prof. Faduyile stressed that there are two broad types of the disease based on how it is acquired: ” We have the community acquired Pneumonia, if sufferers are infected within the community and the nosocomically acquired if it is gotten in the hospital.” The Professor of Pathology added that there is aspiration Pneumonia which follows inhalation of food , drink or vomitus.
Going further, Prof. Faduyile quipped that Pneumonia is a killer disease, urging people to take action to prevent it , while maintaining that anyone with its symptoms should see the doctor very promptly.
