Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and former President Olusegun Obasanjo are in a new war of words. The conflict started after Obasanjo attended Fayose’s 65th birthday party in Ibadan.

The problem began with the speech Obasanjo gave at the event. Fayose was angered by the remarks, which he considered “irresponsible.” He then sent a text message to Obasanjo to thank him for coming, but the message was full of insults.

In the message, Fayose accused the former President of being “low” and suggested he belonged in a zoo. He also claimed Obasanjo was suffering from a “heightened stage of dementia,” a condition affecting memory and thinking.

On Monday, Obasanjo responded publicly through his media aide. He acknowledged receiving Fayose’s “thank you” message, which he said clearly revealed Fayose’s character. Obasanjo described the former governor as “unchanged and unchangeable.”

A key part of the response involved a gift. Obasanjo stated that he was returning the money that Fayose had sent for his birthday. He said the cash was being sent back in the same, unopened bag it was delivered in.

The statement confirmed that the event, which was meant to be a celebration, has now turned into a public dispute. It shows that the long-standing hostility between the two political figures is still very much alive.

This exchange has drawn significant public attention, highlighting the deep personal and political tensions that often surface in the country’s politics.
