In a significant political shift, over 770 supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State have left their party. They have now joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the party in power at the national level.
The large group, from the Rimin Gado area, was officially welcomed into the APC on Friday. A top official, Rabiu Bichi, told them they had made a “bold” and lucky choice by switching sides.
Bichi strongly defended the APC’s record. He claimed it is the only party that can truly develop Nigeria. As proof, he pointed to many projects, worth billions of Naira, that he says have been completed in Kano under the current government.
He also addressed the country’s challenges, stating that President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” plan is already showing good results. He mentioned efforts to improve the economy and make sure there is more food for everyone.
The leader of the defectors, Mohammad Karofin-Yashi, explained their reason for leaving. He said they were impressed by the development projects started by the APC. They now believe the APC is the party that can lead Kano and Nigeria to a better future.
Karofin-Yashi promised that this was just the beginning. He and his group pledged to convince even more of their former NNPP colleagues to cross over and join them in the APC.
