A community in Cross River State is mourning the death of a young man, Oshen, who was killed while trying to stop a fight between students. The tragic incident occurred Tuesday afternoon outside Ugboro Secondary School, turning an ordinary school day into a scene of tragedy.
Reports say Oshen, 23, stepped in to separate two fighting students, Ogbeche and Nicholas. However, his attempt to make peace turned fatal when Ogbeche, a junior secondary student, felt Oshen was taking sides. In a sudden fit of anger, Ogbeche grabbed a heavy wooden pestle used for pounding food and struck Oshen on the head.
An eyewitness, Lizzy, explained that the blow was severe. “People shouted for him to stop, but he didn’t listen. The pestle is very heavy, and with just one strike, Oshen collapsed.” The victim was rushed to a hospital in Ogoja but died later that night.
It was revealed that the young suspect, Ogbeche, has a history of violent behavior at school. Following the incident, he was arrested by the police. The event has left the community grieving for Oshen, who is remembered as the son of a well-known local figure.
