Algeria offers Niger alternative electricity.

– Steve Ovirih

The Government of Algeria has indicated interest in supplying Niger electricity for free.

It will be recalled that Nigerian Government under the Bola Tinubu Presidency has activated series of sanctions against the Military Junta which has suspended democratic governance in Niger, part of which is the stoppage of electricity to Niger consequent upon the putsch in the country. The Transmission Company of Nigeria, thepolity gathered, had switched off till further notice the country’s electricity supply, which connects straight from the National grid , having no connection with the provision of power to any other region.

The Public Relations Officer of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Kano Sub region , Mallam Umar El- yandsiki confirmed this development in an official statement.

Lending support to this view, an All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, Alhaji Adamu Garba said owing to the growing feud between Nigeria and Niger over the Gen.Tchiani led coup de tat, and the subsequent suspension of electricity to Niger, Algeria has offered provision of alternative power supply to the country at no cost for now.
