For the proposed industrial action set to be embarked on by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) not to hold , the federal government has reached out with the Olive branch to the academic body.

It will be recalled that a two week warning strike has already been decided on by the body, which will start on Monday, October 13. The body has indicated that after the two week warning strike , the deciding organs of ASUU will meet to weigh further action.

However, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education has appealed to the body not to go ahead with the proposed strike . He made the appeal at a news conference in Abuja in the course of which he indicated that President Tinubu is committed to resolving the ASUU/FG imbroglio amicably. He said the President’s directive is to the effect that all strike action by unions in the tertiary institution in Nigeria must be averted to allow a hitch free academic calendar for Nigerian students.

Among the demands of ASUU is the renegotiation of the 2009 ASUU/FG agreement , revitalization of universities and an end to victimization of ASUU members across universities in Nigeria by university administrators

As at the time of filing this report, the Yayale Ahmed led federal government -Tertiary institutions Expanded Negotiation Committee is yet to meet with the Academic Staff Union of Universities,ASUU over the impending strike action.
