A High court sitting at Ilesa in Osun state has taken a swipe at the State Governor , Mr. Rauf Aregbesola for changing the identity of the state from Osun state to “State of Osun .” The Judge , Justice Yinka Afolabi in his judgement noted that State of Osun, being the Governor’s identity brand and preference tag was unknown to the 1999 constitution and was therefore an illegal nomenclature with which the state has been identified under the Governor Aregbesola administration.
The Judge said when the state was created in 1991, it was known to be Osun state, and under no circumstances should anyone one or authority , their proxy or government attempt to identify the state by any brand or tag unrecognised by the 1999 constitution.
The case was brought before the honourable court by an Ilesa based human right lawyer in his bid to set the record straight on the impropriety of the brand “state of Osun,” which the government of Aregbesola has been identifying the state with over the years.
