COVID-19: Obasanjo locks Church’ door to maintain safety protocol.

– Steve Ovirih.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has displayed a gesture that showed his belief in the reality of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the need to maintain all the prescribed safety protocols in order to prevent the spread of the contagion. His gesture which though was blunt and frank, yet commendable, was made at The St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral, Remo at the burial of his mother-in-law, Late Mrs. Florence Adenekan.

Obasanjo, suspecting that the number of people at the funeral service would surpass the expected population recommended as appropriate in a social gathering during this period of caution over COVID-19, stood up from his pew and shut the West door leading into the cathedral.

Regardless of the fact that among the horde of people yet to gain entry into the church were his personal staff and other well meaning dignitaries, the Retired Army General maintained that it will not be proper to allow the church to be over crowded as doing that will be a flagrant disobedience to maintaining necessary safety protocols against contracting coronavirus.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo stood in for his wife, Mrs .Bola Obasanjo, daughter of the deceased who could not make her mother’s funeral as she was away in The United States of America and could not fly home because of the ‘no flight’ protocol as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which has ravaged the globe lately.

Rt. Revd Abiodun Fape presided at the burial service after which Late Madam Adenekan was interred at Isara Remo, Ogun State.

Madam Adenekan died at the age of 89.
