FG mourns as unknown gunmen kill NSCDC personnel, others

Federal government has expressed sadness over the ambush and killing of personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Nigerian Police and Nigerian Army while on official duty at Ehime Mbano Local government area of Imo state
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the incidence as ” a terrible tragedy,, shocking and barbaric, promising that government will go after the perpetrators and ensure justice for the slain
In statement signed by Deputy Director, Press, federal ministry of Interior, Fatai Afonja, the minister assured the families of the deceased and Nigerians that the country would never forget their sacrifice, adding that their loved ones would not be abandoned.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Umualumaku community, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State,” he said.
“The loss of our security operatives is a terrible tragedy. It was a dark Tuesday for us as our men died on the cause of duty. And that is why I keep saying our security officers are doing a thankless job.
“On behalf of the Ministry, and on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we will ensure that their memories are not forgotten.”
Praying for the souls of the departed, Dr Tunji-Ojo said “We will work tirelessly to investigate this heinous act and bring the perpetrators to justice”, he added.
Confirming the incidence, Public Relations Officer, (PRO), NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, told The Guardian that two personal of the Corps were ambushed and attack, one died while the other is critically injured and hospitalized.
