People always say there is light at the end of the tunnel; for the residents of Ondo southern senatorial district , for many years which they had been without electricity supply, it looked almost like “there will not be light at the end of their enduring tunnel”, but as matter stands now, there is a strong likelihood of a reprieve from their many years of darkness.
The Federal government has finally shown interest in the plight of the people of the southern senatorial district through the interventionist effort of its agency, Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC. The agency has been mandated to the restoration and upgrading of the power supply to the district with immediate effect.
It will be recalled that during the presidential election campaign in 2016, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo promised the people of Igbokoda that the Buhari administration will take the people out of the darkness that the previous government had watched them suffer.
The Vice President also reiterated this promise at the Niger Delta stakeholders parley which held last year equally at Igbokoda.
While giving assurance on the readiness of government to commence the electricity restoration process, Engineer Ife Oyedele, Executive Director, NDPHC , said the project as promised by FG is genuine and it is not in anyway an attempt to hoodwink the people of the district.
Ife Oyedele a bonafide Ikale son , in his chat with Ondoevents said he was not surprised that the people have reason to doubt the genuineness of the project because so many politicians in the time past have raised false hope over the agenda of electricity restoration to the district.

I am not surprised that you doubt the sincerity of this effort and justifiably too. I am, as all of you, angry that our Ondo State Southern Senatorial District has been without electricity for upward 10 or more years. It is wicked and totally unacceptable.

However I assure you that this project is genuine and it is no attempt to hoodwink our people. I am from Okitipupa Local Government and attended primary schools in Akotogbo, Ilutitun, Ode Aye, Ikoya and Okitipupa. So I feel you.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria is determined to right this wrong. The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, who also doubles as Chairman of the Board of Directors of NDPHC, is on top of this matter. It is a fulfilment of a promise made. We are not only working to restore power supply to the entire Senatorial District we are also upgrading the electricity infrastructure to the area.

“The Government of President Muhammadu Buhari does not and will not receive the people who worked hard to elect it into office by defeating the inept PDP government which put our people inç darkness for so long. I have the full authority to speak for this Government”, Ife Oyedele stressed.
noted that both Irele and Ese Odo are adequately factored into this project, and asked for everybody’s cooperation as soon as the restoration efforts begin.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu while welcoming the board of NDPHC to his office appealed to the contractors to expedite actions on the job.
