The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), on Saturday, praised the Supreme Court for upholding justice in the Kano State governorship dispute involving Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

It will be recalled that the Supreme Court confirmed Abba Yusuf’s election as Kano Governor on Friday.

The acting National Chairman of NNPP, Abba Kawu Ali, stated this in Abuja, during a press briefing, expressed gratitude to Nigerians, the international community and the media for their unwavering support throughout the judicial process.
He particularly thanked the Supreme Court Justices for their commitment to fairness and equity, as demonstrated in their recent judgment.

He said: “We are here today to register our profound gratitude to Nigerians in general, the International Community and indeed, the media, for their invaluable support to our party during our trying journey through the judicial process which ended yesterday with the verdict of the Supreme Court.

“As you are all aware, the verdict affirmed the victory of NNPP and our Candidate in the March 18, 2023 election, it reaffirmed Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf as the authentic, duly elected, Executive Governor of Kano State.

“We want to especially appreciate the Honourable Justices of the Supreme Court for their courage to uphold the principles of fairness and equity, as demonstrated in their judgment yesterday.”

The NNPP leader expressed delight that the Supreme Court’s ruling had vindicated the party, highlighting the statement of Justice Inyang Okoro JSC, the chairman of the 5-man panel, who acknowledged a miscarriage of justice in the earlier tribunal and court of appeal rulings. Justice Okoro advised judges to be meticulous in their decision-making and urged them to discharge their duties with boldness and integrity, free from external pressure.

Ali assured the Nigerians, particularly the residents of Kano State, that the NNPP would not take the support shown for granted. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would continue implementing people-oriented programs that he initiated since assuming office.

Ali emphasized that the NNPP would remain committed to defending, promoting, and serving the interests of the Nigerian people, regardless of their tribe, gender, or religion.

He stressed the need for a morally and institutionally strengthened judiciary that can uphold its historic dignity and independence to better serve the aspirations of a majority of Nigerians.
