Police Officers, Civilian Shot in Ondo Checkpoint Attack; Suspect Captured.

Gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on police officers at a highway checkpoint in Owo, Ondo State. The attack left two policemen and a female civilian injured.

The police patrol team at the scene quickly returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee. During the response, officers managed to arrest one suspect at the scene and recovered the motorcycle used in the attack.

All three injured victims were rushed to a hospital and are currently receiving medical care. The civilian victim has been identified as a woman named Taiwo.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident. He stated that the arrested suspect, identified as Nwabali, is in custody and providing useful information to help track down his fleeing accomplices.

The State Commissioner of Police condemned the “tragic and condemnable” attack on officers performing their lawful duty. He praised the patrol team’s bravery and swift response, which he said helped prevent any loss of life.

The police have assured the public that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The arrested individual will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
