NO fewer than sixty houses and properties worth millions of naira have been demolished by a heavy rainstorm in Ondo State on Friday night.
The terrible incident that occurred at Gaga Area, Akure, the capital city of the state, blew off the roofs, also had some houses which were partially affected, while some vehicles were trapped under fallen trees.

Our correspondent gathered that some religious centres in the area were also badly damaged, leaving their buildings totally collapsed due to the current of the tidal waves.

An eyewitness narrated that the entire community has been thrown into total darkness because the rainstorm reportedly uprooted many electricity poles.

The residents and victims urged the state government, the National Emergency Management Agency and other stakeholders to assist them, lamenting that many of them had been rendered homeless.

The head of Gaga community, Mr. Oluwole Omotosho, who spoke with journalists yesterday implored the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu to assist the community with relief materials.

“This incident came to us as a shock, it is very unfortunate that this could happen to us at this time when things are not easy in the country. That is why we are calling on our state government to assist us out of the problem. We are begging them.”

Omotosho further explained that they had contacted the lawmakers representing the constituencies at the state and National Assembly to come to the aid of the affected people in the area.
