UNILAG lecturer to appear in court for allegedly raping student

Tamarauemi Ebimini

A lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Kadiri, has been accused of raping a female undergraduate student in his office.

The incident allegedly took place on Wednesday, August 16, when the student went to the lecturer’s office to sort out issues about her result, according to the student, who asked to remain anonymous.

A non-governmental organisation, Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation (InclusiveSWEF), where the victim reported the case, said rather than Dr Kadiri attending to the undergraduate’s result issues, he allegedly raped her.

The Inclusive SWEF then reported the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Idowu Owohunwa, confirmed the incident, stating that he issued a warrant of arrest for Dr. Kadiri through the state High Court.

Owohunwa added that the lecturer was arrested and is expected to appear in court in the coming days.

UNILAG’s spokesperson, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, also stated that the university is aware of the investigation and is cooperating with the police.
