A large scale cash transfer programme aimed at strengthening household income and reducing poverty has begun disbursing funds to 110,517 vulnerable households in Bauchi State, under the National Cash Transfer Office’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment Programme  Conditional Cash Transfer, in a move designed to deepen financial inclusion and economic resilience.

The rollout was formally flagged off on Tuesday at the Bauchi Local Government Secretariat, where officials confirmed that beneficiaries will receive between ₦25,000 and ₦72,000, depending on category, through a debit card system introduced to ensure direct and traceable access to funds.

Implementing agencies, including the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, the National Social Investment Programme Agency, and partners under the World Bank-supported National Social Safety Nets Project Scale-Up, say the intervention is structured to improve transparency, reduce leakages, and link vulnerable households to formal financial systems through biometric and National Identification Number verification.

Programme data shows that distribution has already commenced in Bauchi Local Government Area, where 16,497 beneficiaries have been enrolled and activated, while mobilisation teams are being deployed across all 20 local government areas of the state to complete the statewide rollout.

Officials overseeing the exercise acknowledge that data capture challenges were recorded in Bauchi and Katagum during earlier stages, but said these have been resolved, while also flagging concerns over irregular practices involving some beneficiaries and Point of Sale operators, prompting the introduction of additional monitoring measures.

Local government representatives and beneficiaries have welcomed the intervention, describing it as a significant support mechanism for vulnerable households struggling with rising living costs, while government stakeholders maintain that the structured debit card system will strengthen accountability, improve delivery efficiency, and expand access to formal financial services across communities in Bauchi State.
