A prominent Lagos pastor, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has publicly responded to serious allegations made by a government minister. The Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, had accused the cleric of trying to extort a large sum of money from him.
Adelabu reportedly petitioned the secret police, the DSS. He claimed Ayodele demanded 150 million Naira for spiritual help to win the Oyo state governorship election.
On Sunday, Ayodele strongly denied these accusations during a church service. He mocked the stated amount, declaring that 150 million Naira “is not enough to buy my shoe.”
The cleric also made a bold political prediction. He stated that Adelabu is upset because he knows he will fail in his next attempt to become governor.
This public clash highlights the tense intersection of religion, politics, and money in Nigeria. It places a minister’s private allegations against a pastor’s fiery public rebuttal.
The DSS has not commented on whether it will investigate the minister’s petition. The situation remains a war of words between the two figures.
The controversy raises questions about the unseen influences sought in political contests. It also shows the deepening conflict between the cleric and the aspiring governor.
