Tinubu Unlikely to Sack Wike Amid Rivers Crisis, Says Fayose.

A key political figure has stated that President Bola Tinubu is not expected to dismiss the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, as a solution to the political turmoil in Rivers State. The comment comes as the conflict between Wike and the state’s current Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, continues to deepen.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, made the assertion, suggesting that removing Wike from his ministerial post to appease Governor Fubara is not a step the President is prepared to take. This highlights the complex political calculations in play, with the President appearing to balance alliances.

The ongoing crisis in Rivers State has created a significant rift, splitting the state’s political structure and causing governance concerns. Despite public appeals for peace, the feud between the camps of the sitting governor and his predecessor shows no signs of abating.

Fayose’s analysis points to Wike’s solidified position within the national administration. The FCT Minister remains a powerful figure in the ruling party, and his removal could upset delicate political balances beyond the Rivers conflict.

Governor Fubara, who was initially backed by Wike, now leads a faction opposing his predecessor’s influence. The struggle has led to a series of confrontations, including an attempt to impeach the governor and a shocking demolition of the state house of assembly complex.

The statement from Fayose suggests the President’s approach will focus on political negotiation rather than direct intervention. This indicates the Rivers crisis may persist, as key actors navigate a prolonged stalemate with no immediate resolution in sight.
