A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti has thrown out the recent governorship primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State. The judge ordered the party to conduct a completely new primary election.
The ruling came from a lawsuit filed by a governorship aspirant, Funsho Ayeni. He sued the PDP and the election commission, INEC, arguing the primary was illegal because the party did not use a proper list of delegates for voting.
Justice Babs Kuewumi, delivering the judgment, agreed that the election did not follow the law or the party’s own rules. He stated that not having the correct delegate list was a major fault that made the entire primary invalid.
As a result, the court has instructed the PDP and INEC to organize a fresh primary. The judge stressed that this new election must follow all legal guidelines and must allow all eligible aspirants to participate fairly.
The canceled primary, held in November 2025, had earlier produced Dr. Wole Oluyede as the party’s candidate. He defeated Ayeni and another aspirant to win the original vote.
This court decision creates a major setback for the PDP’s preparations for the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State, forcing the party to restart its selection process under strict judicial watch.
