A prominent political figure has declared that removing President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 election is achievable if opposition forces present strong candidates and ensure strict oversight of the electoral body. Dele Momodu, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party for the African Democratic Congress, made the claim in a televised interview on Thursday.
Momodu argued that many wrongly believe defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress is impossible. He stated that victory is within reach if the opposition closely monitors the Independent National Electoral Commission and selects candidates with significant political influence.
The ADC chieftain revealed that his new party already includes major political heavyweights capable of mounting a serious challenge. He named former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers Governor Chibuike Amaechi as key figures within the ADC’s ranks.
Crucially, Momodu noted that two of the top three contenders from the last presidential election—Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi—are now aligned with the ADC. He suggested that uniting these voting blocs could provide enough support to overwhelm the APC in a future election.
Momodu emphasized that the opposition must manage its affairs wisely to capitalize on this potential. He expressed confidence that the ADC is well-positioned to confront the ruling party directly on the political stage.
The politician concluded by stressing that transparent and professional management of the electoral process is vital for a successful challenge, pointing out that this is the global standard for smooth elections. He maintained that with the right approach, a change in power is not an impossibility.
