Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has presented a massive N1.66 trillion spending plan for 2026 to the Delta State House of Assembly. The proposal, titled “Budget of Hope and Optimism,” is the largest financial plan in the state’s history.
The Governor detailed how the money will be split. A significant portion, over N1 trillion, is dedicated to capital projects. This includes building new roads, improving schools, and upgrading health facilities. The remaining funds will cover government running costs like salaries.
Governor Oborevwori stated that the budget’s main goal is to speed up infrastructure development across the state. He emphasized that this will create jobs and improve the overall economy for the people of Delta.
To fund this record budget, the government expects most of the money to come from federal sources. This includes the state’s share of national oil revenue. A smaller part is projected to be generated internally within the state.
The proposal has now been handed over to the state lawmakers for review. The Assembly will now begin a detailed examination of the budget document. Their job is to debate and approve the plan before it can become law.
This large budget signals the state’s ambitious plans for major new projects. If passed, the government will have a significant financial tool to pursue its development agenda over the coming year.
