Olabode Omoyele hails Jimoh Ibrahim’s strides at UN

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Olabode Omoyele has commended Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, over his impressive leadership strides at the global body.

Olabode, a Lagos-based real estate developer and founder of the Olabode Humanitarian Foundation, said Ibrahim’s emergence as chairman of two critical UN committees has repositioned Nigeria as a serious voice in multilateral diplomacy.

Nigeria recently assumed the chairmanship of the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, popularly known as the Committee of 34 (C-34), with Ambassador Ibrahim pledging to lead with transparency, accountability and strong commitment to protection of civilians.

Ibrahim, who took over the leadership of the committee from Canada, also pledged to promote accountability while supporting efforts to strengthen international peace and security, particularly in tackling terrorism.

Olabode described the feat as historic and strategic for the country.

According to him, Ibrahim’s dual chairmanship — as Chairman of the C-34 and Chairman of the UN Fifth Committee responsible for administrative and budgetary matters — is a testament to his academic pedigree, diplomatic exposure and legislative experience.

“Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has demonstrated that Nigeria can lead with ideas, intellect and integrity at the highest global stage. His election to chair the Fifth Committee and now the C-34 shows the confidence the international community reposes in him and in Nigeria,” Olabode said.

He noted that the development is significant given Nigeria’s longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping operations and advocacy for multilateral cooperation.

The APC chieftain, who hails from Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, said Ibrahim’s performance validates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of him as Nigeria’s envoy to the UN.

He added that Ibrahim’s background in international diplomacy, including his engagements at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and his training have placed Nigeria in a strong position to contribute meaningfully to global peace and budgetary reforms.

Olabode urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from Ibrahim’s global ascent, stressing that competence and preparation remain key to national relevance.

He congratulated the Igbotako-born diplomat and expressed confidence that under his stewardship, the C-34 would deliver impactful reforms that would strengthen peacekeeping operations worldwide.
