A significant political conflict has erupted following a recent national conference for judges. The controversy centers on the reported playing of a song closely linked to President Bola Tinubu’s political campaign at the official event.
The song, “On Your Mandate,” was used during the conference, which was attended by high-ranking members of Nigeria’s judiciary. This has raised serious concerns about the perception of political influence over the legal system.
In a strong public statement, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the action. He described the decision to replace the national anthem with the president’s campaign song as “reckless and deeply irresponsible.”
Atiku warned that this act creates a dangerous impression. He stated it makes it seem like the government is pressuring the judiciary, which is supposed to be an independent branch of government. This, he argued, threatens the principle of separation of powers.
The incident has ignited a fierce debate about the neutrality of the courts. Many are questioning how such a clearly political song was approved for a formal gathering of the nation’s judges.
As of now, the Presidency has not issued an official response to the growing criticism. The silence from the government is further fueling the debate over this alleged breach of official protocol.
